As is common practice within the hotel industry, guests are required to present a valid credit or debit card upon arrival to the hotel. This will be used for a pre-authorisation or charge to cover accommodation (if not already pre-paid) and any incidental extras during your stay. A temporary pre-authorisation is based on the length of your stay and will be held on your card. Any unused funds will be released upon departure. Please be aware that it may take a few days for the funds to reappear in your account, depending on your bank or card provider’s processing times.

A discretionary nightly service charge of £15 will be added to your hotel bill. The service charge is a payment which recognises and rewards all employees for exceeding your expectations, and the entire amount is shared equally between the team. There is absolutely no obligation to pay this, and you may wish to wait until check-out to decide. If you’d prefer to opt out in advance, you’re welcome to let us know at any time, whether before arrival, at check-in, or during your stay.

A discretionary charitable donation of £1 will be included in your final invoice. Red Carnation Hotels matches all donations pound for pound and all monies raised are divided equally between two charities working with seriously ill children, Starlight Children’s Foundation and Hospitality Action, which offers support to those in the hospitality industry facing challenges such as illness, financial difficulties, or addiction. We respect that you may wish to support other charitable organisations, if this is the case, please ask for the charge to be removed from your account.

All major credit cards are accepted including American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club and Switch.

By April 2025, all travellers who do not currently need a visa will require an ETA to travel to the UK.

The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is a new requirement that grants permission to travel to the UK from 2025. This applies to all international travellers wishing to visit or transit through England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. You will need an ETA to visit Northern Ireland, whether you are arriving directly or via the Republic of Ireland.

All international travellers, including children and babies need an ETA. Irish and British citizens are exempt. 

The ETA is valid for two years, and allows multiple visits of up to six months per trip. The fastest way to apply is using the UK ETA app, available on the Apple Store and Google Play.

To avoid delays and disruptions, please apply for your ETA well in advance of your departure. It’s quick, affordable, and can be done online.

Pets are welcome in our guest bedrooms and a range of pet beds and menus are available. This must be arranged when making your reservation, so please ensure you give prior notice. A deposit is requested upon arrival in case of any damage caused, and this will be returned to you at the end of your stay. Find out more about our facilities for pets here.

We are a short walk from Russell Square underground station on the Piccadilly line, around five minutes on foot. Holborn station, served by both the Piccadilly and Central lines, is roughly eight minutes away across Bloomsbury Square, and is often the more convenient choice if you are travelling across the city. For mainline and international rail, King’s Cross St Pancras – the London terminal for Eurostar services – is a short journey from the hotel, and London Euston is also close by. Our concierge team will be delighted to advise on the best route for your onward journey, or to arrange a car for you. 

We offer secure valet parking nearby. We have a discounted rate of £45 for 24 hours, if your car remains parked for this period. Otherwise, an hourly fee will apply if you take your car out multiple times throughout the day. Additionally, as The Montague on the Gardens is located in a ULEZ zone, vehicles that do not meet ULEZ emissions standards and are not exempt will incur a daily charge of £12.50 to drive within the zone.

Yes, there is a congestion charge for guests driving to The Montague or during their stay. The charge is £15 per day, applicable from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 12pm to 6pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and bank holidays. However, there is no charge between Christmas Day and New Year's Day bank holidays.

We understand that organisers and suppliers often need to bring equipment, staging, or décor into the hotel ahead of an event. Please contact our Events team in advance of your arrival and we will talk you through access arrangements at the hotel, along with the best times to load and unload given traffic and guest movements on Montague Street.

Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is at 12pm.

If you are arriving early, we may be able to offer access to a courtesy room from 10am, subject to availability. Please note that this may not be the same room or room category you have booked. We recommend arranging this at least 24 hours before arrival where possible. The service is available to guests across all room categories.

Yes, and with pleasure. If you arrive before your room is ready, or if you would like to enjoy a final few hours in London after checking out, our concierge team will be delighted to store your luggage securely. There is no charge for this service, and it is available to you on the day of arrival and the day of departure. Simply speak to the concierge desk in Reception and we will take care of it.

Please do get in touch with us as soon as you can. If you believe you have mislaid an item during your stay, contact Reception with a description of the item, your room number and the dates of your stay, and we will carry out a thorough search. Where an item is found, we will hold it securely for you. You are very welcome to collect it from the hotel at a time that suits you, or we can arrange postage to your home address – including internationally. We will confirm any postage costs with you in advance, so there are no surprises.

Yes. A hairdryer is provided in every guest bathroom, so there is no need to pack your own.

Minibar’s come standard within our suites, while other room categories do not come equipped with a minibar the front office team have a small number of fridges available to be placed in rooms upon request. If you would prefer the minibar emptied so that you can use the space for your own items, or if you need a fridge for any reason during your stay, please do let us know in advance or speak to us on arrival and we will make arrangements for you.

The United Kingdom uses the three-pin Type G socket, running at 230 volts. If you are travelling from outside the UK you will need an adaptor, and depending on your device, a voltage converter as well. There is no need to worry if you arrive without one. Please ask at Reception and we will be glad to lend you an adaptor for the duration of your stay (subject to availability).

Yes. The hotel has lift access, with our accessible lifts measuring 80cm wide by 140cm deep. Should you need assistance with luggage or finding your room on arrival, a member of our team will be very happy to accompany you.

The Montague on the Gardens is a Georgian townhouse property, and our guest bedrooms are spread across five floors, all served by lift. As with many historic buildings of this period, room layouts vary from floor to floor, which is part of the character of the house. If you have a preference – a particular floor, a quieter aspect, or a room close to the lift – please do let us know before you arrive and we will do our very best to accommodate it.

Yes. We offer a fitness room for the use of our guests, equipped with two Peloton bikes and a treadmill, so you can keep to your routine while you are with us. If you would prefer a fuller facility, there are a number of excellent gyms within easy reach, and our concierge team will be delighted to help you find the one that suits you best. For those who would rather exercise outdoors, Russell Square and Bloomsbury Square are both on our doorstep and make for a lovely run, and our concierge can provide a yoga mat on request.

Yes, we offer 24-hour room service. After 10pm, there is an evening menu which features selected hot dishes.

Yes, charges are listed in the room. If you give in your laundry before 9am, it will be returned the same day.

While we do not offer currency exchange on site our concierge team will be glad to point you towards trusted currency exchange nearby, and to advise on the most convenient option for you.

There is no cash machine within the hotel itself, though there are several within a few minutes’ walk in Bloomsbury. Our concierge team will gladly direct you to the nearest one. 

The British Museum, which is adjacent to The Montague on the Gardens, is open from 10am until 5.30pm every day. There is also a late opening on Fridays until 8.30pm. The British Museum is closed on 24th, 25th and 26th December and 1st January.

Sightseeing tours can be arranged through our Concierge. We can organise tours of London and many other popular UK destinations such as Windsor Castle, Stratford upon Avon, Stonehenge, Oxford, Bath and Canterbury.

We are able to acquire some of the best seats in the house for most theatres. Please let us know your choice of show and we will do our best to get you great seats.

Selfridges and John Lewis are all on Oxford Street - only a short walk, or an even shorter taxi ride, from the hotel. We are able to arrange for the services of a personal shopper at many stores including these. Please ask the Concierge for more details.

The London Eye is located on the South Bank. The nearest station is Waterloo on the Northern Line. Our Concierge can arrange tickets for you, please ask at reception.
